Delphi Glass Corporation is a privately held American retail and wholesale company specializing in art glass supplies. Delphi Glass was founded in 1972 by Dan Daniels in Lansing, Michigan where the company is still located today[1].
In 1968, future company founder Dan Daniels became interested in stained glass and began looking for instructional classes and supplies in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. At this time classes for hobbyist were not readily available, but Daniels persisted and finally an artisan at a local stained glass studio agreed to teach him[2]. In 1971, Daniels and his family moved to Lansing, MI where he started teaching stained glass classes at Michigan State University and at Lansing Community College. The classes proved to be very popular, and Daniels started selling supplies out of his home. He, his wife Helene and brother Dennis opened Delphi Glass in 1972[3]. The Delphi name was chosen for the ancient city of Delphi, the center of learning and knowledge in Greek mythology. [4].
By 1994 the steady growth allowed the company to build a new 30,000 sq ft (2,800 m2) center which was later expanded an additional 45,000 sq ft (4,200 m2). in 2008. Though, the company's biggest growth has been outside of their store. According to Daniels in a 2008 interview, 75% percent of Delphi’s business is now catalog and ecommerace sales [5]. Delphi Glass Corp is still owned and operated as a family business.
